George Alexander

George Alexander (1889 – 1916) was one of 8 children living at 3 Albert Road in 1901 with their parents George and Mary. In 1903, George’s father who was a police constable died and by 1911 the family have moved to Priory Street with their mother.

George served as a private in the 2nd Essex Regiment. He was killed in action in October 1916 in France with his mother Mary receiving his war payment in 1917. He is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial in France.
