Arthur Allchurch (1891 – 1916) was born into a military family. He was born in Hampshire where his father Elisha was a corporal with the Somerset Light Infantry. Before joining North School he attended school in Dover where his father was based at the nearby Hythe School of Musketry which taught firearms skills to officers. Arthur left North School in 1905 when he was 14 and in 1911 was working as a market gardener in Hounslow.
Arthur joined the King’s Royal Rifles and was killed in action in Arras, France on 1 July 1916. He is remembered on the Arras Memorial.
