Thomas Appleby (1893 – 1917) lived at 2 Marquis of Granby Yard with his family for the whole time he went to North School, and he continued living there after he left school for work in 1906. In 1911, he lived with his two parents and seven brothers and sisters in the house which had 6 rooms.
Thomas enlisted with the 9th Essex Regiment which was part of Kitchener’s New Army, and was killed in action in 1917 in France. He is remembered on the Arras Memorial.
