Arthur Bews (1896 – 1917) was also known as James Burns. He was born in London and attended school in Hammersmith and Fulham for a year between 1901 and 1902 before the family moved to Colchester. He joined North School when living at 54 North Hill and lived at 22 North Hill in 1911.
Arthur (James) was a private in the Essex Regiment and then the Machine Gun Corps. He died in France in 1917. Vesta Cook of 35 Culver Street was the beneficiary of his will and this address in Culver Street is given as an alternative address for Arthur (James) in the probate records.
