James Brighty

James Brighty (1896 – 1916) came from a military family.  He was born in Aldershot in 1896 to parents Charles, a private in the Norfolk Regiment and Louisa Brighty.  In 1901 Louisa lived with her two sons and one daughter at the garrison in Colchester.  James attended North School from an address in Water Lane (near Sheepen Road).

In 1911 James had followed his father into the Norfolk Regiment, living at Malplaquet Barracks in Aldershot.  He was 14 years old.

James arrived in Mesopotamia with the 2nd Norfolk Regiment on 15 November 1914 and remained there until his death in October 1916.  He is buried in Baghdad (North Gate) War Cemetery.
