Edward Brooker

Edward Brooker (1891 – 1917) lived with his parents and 8 brothers and sisters at 5 Garden Court when he started school.  In 1906 his mother, Mary Ann died leaving father John with the children.  By 1911 only three of the youngest daughters remain living with him.

Edward joined the 1st Essex Regiment in Chelmsford and was killed in action in 1917.  He is remembered on the Arras Memorial in France, with “Son of John Richard Brooker, of 30, Albion Grove, Colchester” in the memorial register.
