Frederick Corkerton

Frederick Corkerton (1894 – 1915) was born in Colchester and lived with his family at 34 Colne Bank Road. He left North School in 1908 and worked as an apprentice printer.

Fred enlisted with the Rifle Brigade in Colchester on 31st August 1914, just weeks after the war was declared. The next day he reported to Winchester for training. He was 20years old, 5 foot 5 inches tall and in good physical shape.

Fred was killed in action on 30th July 1915 in Belgium. He is remembered on the Menin Gate Memorial at Ypres.
