Douglas Sadler

Douglas Sadler (1897 – 1918) lived at 28 Northgate Street when he went to North School. In 1911 he lived with his mother Elizabeth, his 12 siblings and a nursemaid Mrs Hamblion in this 5 room house.

Douglas served with the 1st Bedfordshire Regiment. We know that Douglas served abroad sometime after 1916 as he was awarded the British War Medal and Allied Victory Medal. He died of wounds in a London hospital on 12 September 1918. He is remembered on the memorial at the City of London Memorial Manor Park and in Colchester Cemetery.
